Jack Shaffer Chairman and Founder of HSA Commercial Real Estate
Experience Mr. Shaffer founded HSA in 1981. He has been directly involved in the construction and development of more than 50 million square feet of industrial, retail and office space; and in the acquisition of over 100,000 acres for the development of business parks, shopping centers and industrial properties.
Some of Mr. Shaffer’s projects include the development of the 63 acre Broadview Village Square, the 300 acre Kensington Business Center, the 550 acre Turnberry Lakes International Business Park, three Covington Corporate Center business parks totaling over 300 acres, the 10 acre Oakbrook Terrace Office Park,. the 33 acre Highland Oaks Office Park, the 30 acre Opus West Office Park and the 1,200 acre Governors Gateway Industrial Park.
Prior to forming HSA, Mr. Shaffer started MRX/Midwest Realty Exchange in 1977 and, before that, he held executive positions as: partner and executive vice president of Hawthorn Realty Group, vice president and director for Northwest Industries (Northwestern Rail) and New York Central Railroad, and manager of industrial real estate development for the New York Central Railroad. He was involved in the development of the 6,800-acre new town of Park Forest South in Illinois and the purchase of 6,500 acres for the $1.5 billion Jones & Laughlin Steel Plan in Hennepin, Illinois.

Robert Smietana
Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of HSA Commercial Real Estate
Experience
Under Smietana's supervision, HSA's diversified management portfolio has consistently ranked in the top 10 in Chicago and grown to include more than 15 million square feet of office, industrial, retail and corporate facilities in 15 states.
Smietana has completed more than 60 commercial developments comprising more than 13 million square feet and valued at $2.0 billion. His diverse development experience, which began in 1978, includes industrial, retail, hotel, suburban and urban office, senior housing and medical office. He has been responsible for all phases of real estate, including land acquisitions, entitlements, design development, financing, construction management operations, property and asset management, and brokerage.

He is a member of International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP), and the World Presidents Organization (WPO). Robert Smietana is responsible for overall corporate strategy and direction, managing existing client accounts, directing project teams on behalf of third-party owners, developing new business, and managing day-to-day company operations.
Experience
Miranda has built a diverse commercial real estate career ranging from the practice of law to development and finance, as well as the development of service companies serving the industry.
Previously, Miranda served as managing director for national services and prior as the head of the Midwest region of GE Capital Real Estate, co-founder and president of the $1.2 billion Security Capital Preferred Growth Investment Fund, and CEO of MB Real Estate, managing more than 17 million square feet of office and industrial properties.
During his career, Miranda has developed, owned and managed hotel, office, medical, industrial, retail and parking facilities across the country. He has extensive experience in developing and managing debt and equity portfolios as well as building portfolio acquisitions and sales. He has managed brokerage teams and both public and private full-service real estate organizations.

Daniel F. Miranda is primarily responsible for new business relationships under which HSA engages in third-party management and consulting assignments, acquires and develops properties, and expands the firm’s network of institutional clients and capital sources.
Melissa S. Pielet Executive Vice President and Principal with HSA Commercial Real Estate.
Experience
Since joining HSA, Pielet has arranged financing for more than 50 million square feet of commercial real estate in excess of $3 billion and has been involved in the acquisition, development and financing for business parks in multiple markets nationwide. Representative projects Pielet has been involved with include a 400,000-square-foot redevelopment for a City of Chicago maintenance facility; a 40,000- square-foot, built-to-suit headquarters for First of America Bank; four downtown Chicago retail redevelopments totaling 550,000 square feet and four senior housing facilities.
Prior to joining HSA, Pielet was with Heller Real Estate Financial Services.

Melissa S. Pielet is head of HSA's Finance Division and responsible for all of HSA Commercial's real estate developments and acquisitions, including procuring acquistion and development loans, construction financing, permanent financing, joint ventures, and lines of credit. Pielet also manages all of HSA's 16 million square feet of owned assets, with respect to financial servicing matters.
Timothy C. Blum Executive Vice President and Managing Director of HSA Commercial Real Estate’s Retail Brokerage Division.
Experience
Blum has represented retail clients including J.C. Penney’s, Carson’s Furniture, Value City Department Stores, Galyans, Old Navy, Bed Bath and Beyond, Kohl's, Sportmart, DSW, and Barnes and Noble. Additionally, Blum has been involved in more than three million square feet of retail and mixed-use developments.
Some of Blum’s projects include Orland Park Place, an award-winning retail redevelopment project in Orland Park, Ill., and a mixed-use redevelopment project in Royal Oak, Mich., that includes retail and residential condominiums.
Prior to joining HSA, Blum held positions as an acquisitions and asset specialist and retail broker with Brauvin Realty and VMS Realty in Chicago.

John Maduros is executive vice president and chief financial officer of HSA Commercial Real Estate.
Experience
With more than 25 years of experience in the real estate industry, Maduros has been responsible for refinancing and restructuring mortgage debt and has extensive experience in structuring real estate ventures with the intent of minimizing income tax consequences. He has also been involved in the development and implementation of accounting departments, which include hiring, supervising and training of accounting professionals, developing policies and procedures, and implementing accounting software.
Prior to joining HSA, Maduros was the chief financial officer of the Shidler Group where he was involved in cash management, acquisitions, dispositions, debt, procurement, property management and tax planning.

Christine Muszynski Executive Vice President, Principal and Director of Management Operations at HSA Commercial Real Estate.
Experience
With more than 30 years of property management experience, Muszynski possesses expertise in lease renewals and expansion negotiations. She has been responsible for more than $50 million in construction projects inclusive of significant tenant build-outs and major capital improvement programs. She also served as the account manager for the Bank One (now JP Morgan Chase) management assignment, consisting of 275 bank facilities in Northern Illinois with an annual operations budget of over $35 million. She has also been responsible for the financial and equitable aspects of properties owned by Equitable Real Estate Investment Management, Lutheran Social Services, The Gateway Foundation, General American Life Insurance, Royal Neighbors of America, Capital Realty Advisors, Five Star Ventures, and Lennar Partners.
Muszynski began her career with Wirtz Realty Corporation at a 35-story Michigan Avenue office building and later worked with Brauvin Realty Services managing a portfolio of suburban office and retail properties.

Eric Ogden Senior Vice President with HSA Commercial Real Estate’s Acquisition and Development Division
Experience
Prior to joining HSA, Ogden was director of multi-family finance at Prairie Realty Advisors. Previously, he served as the vice president of real estate acquisition and development at LaSalle Bank, where he closed more than $300 million in loans over three years. Ogden has also worked as a real estate development specialist with American Family Insurance, and held positions at the Rifkin Group, Allianz Investment Corporation, and Andersen Consulting.

Phillips has over 20 years of experience in project developments, most recently as a partner and regional vice president at Seefried Properties, Inc., where he delivered over 1,000,000 square feet of industrial space with a market value in excess of $100 million. As a respected member of the development community, Phillips has had articles published in several magazines, was awarded the Village of Bensenville's Businessman of the Year Award in 2007, was named the 2006 NAIOP finalist for his firm's redevelopment of the 253,000 square foot Eagle Global Logistics build-to-suit property in Elk Grove Village, Ill., and was awarded the 2007 Village of Wilmette Historic Preservation Award for new residential construction.

Craig J. Phillips responsibilities are extensive, including creating new development opportunities for the firm and managing the development, leasing and entitlement processes to finalize a successful project.
Josephine Thomas, SPHR Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Information Technology and Administration.
Experience
Josephine Thomas is the Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Information Technology and Administration for HSA Commercial Real Estate. She is responsible for day-to-day management and compliance for all human resource functions. She leads the Information Technology team and is responsible for the IT and telecom infrastructure. She oversees administration for the corporate office which includes day-to-day facilities management including purchasing, vendor negotiations, office equipment leasing and procurement.
Ms. Thomas brings over 25 years of corporate experience to the HSA team. She has worked in various industries including retail, public accounting, software development, travel management, and manufacturing. Her exposure to various industries makes her uniquely qualified to handle the myriad responsibilities she faces day-to-day.

Tim Thompson Tim Thompson is executive vice president and managing director of HSA Commercial Real Estate’s Industrial Brokerage Division.
Experience
In the last 10 years, he has played a major role in HSA’s development of over 5 million square feet of new industrial product in the Chicago metropolitan area, identifying development sites and overseeing the leasing teams that market the finished product.
Since joining HSA Mr. Thompson has represented Landlords and Tenants in negotiating hundreds of industrial lease and sale transactions valued at over $700 million. He has worked with prominent clients such as: Midwest Warehouse and Distribution System, Inc., ML Realty Partners, CenterPoint Properties, First Industrial Realty Trust, Inc., ProLogis, Duke Realty Corporation, MIRVAC Industrial Trust, Computer Discount Warehouse, Morgan Realty Partners, Motions Industries, Fifield Companies, Bridge Development Partners and the Chicago Tribune.
In addition he has actively participated in the acquisition and disposition of investment grade properties in excess of $200 million.
Mr. Thompson has been honored by the CoStar Group’s Power Broker Award, named one of the top Chicago Industrial Brokers by transaction volume by Commercial Forum and was nominated for Chicago Industrial Broker of the Year.

John Wilson President of the Corporate Real Estate Services and Office Brokerage Divisions of HSA Commercial Real Estate, President of HSA PrimeCare, HSA’s health care real estate consulting services group.
Experience
Having been in the industry for more than 20 years, Wilson is one of Chicago’s most respected commercial real estate leaders. He has been successful in all aspects of the industry, including tenant representation, property marketing, real estate development, land transactions and owner representation. Wilson has negotiated hundreds of lease transactions valued in excess of $1 billion on behalf of a variety of prominent tenants and landlords. Some of those clients include The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, Kemper Financial Services, Honeywell and Bank of America.
In 1995, Wilson initiated a healthcare real estate advisory initiative which has grown into a separate operating division of HSA called PrimeCare. Wilson has led the growth of this group, which serves clients such as Good Samaritan Hospital, Christ Medical Center, Lutheran General Hospital, Provena St. Joseph, Provena St. Mary’s South Suburban Hospital, and M & M Orthopaedics, to name a few. The group has also developed and purchased nine medical office buildings across the Midwest totaling more than 500,000 square feet in size.
Wilson began his career in 1976 and was a top grossing broker by age 25. He co-founded Irvine Associates (later renamed Realsource, Inc.) and developed the company into one of the largest real estate firms in the Midwest.
