On Tuesday, Bob Smietana, HSA Commercial’s vice chairman and CEO, led a team of HSAwareness volunteers to the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) headquarters for the group’s second time this year. The HSAwareness team was once again tasked with portioning and packaging cornflakes for distribution to local food banks. The volunteer team, which is pictured above, included Yawniss Garth, Jeff Colon, Sean Flanagan, Alina Zaj, Belle Cassel, Karen Coleman, Josephine Thomas-Hoytt, Bob Smietana, Rose Colovos, John Wilson, and Brenton Schrader.

The group from HSAwareness, with the help of volunteers from Marquette Bank, repackaged a total of 2,350 bags of cornflakes! These cornflakes, along with other essential food items, will be distributed to the GCFD’s local network of 650 pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters throughout Cook County.

Without the help of volunteers, like those from HSA, the Greater Chicago Food Depository estimates that they would need a total of 46 additional full-time staffers to perform necessary sorting and packaging operations. Therefore, the value of the time contribution from volunteers cannot be underestimated in carrying out the Food Depository’s mission.
